Originally from Atlanta, Liz Warner now lives in Paris, and is currently taking on the challenge of running 30 marathons in 30 different countries before her 30th birthday (in June), raising money for various women-empowerment charities within each country.
When I was staying in Sant’Agnello, near Sorrento, I decided to take the bus to Praiano to hike The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei). Here’s a complete guide and a virtual hike to The Path of the Gods.
Lisa Francesca Nand is a travel journalist and broadcaster. She has previously presented travel features on Sky, and has also written numerous pieces for The Independent, The Telegraph, The Times and National Geographic.
Efia Sulter is a solo travel writer who also focuses on mental health. Originally from Scotland, she currently lives in Melbourne. In this episode, we discuss the positive impact solo travel can have on your mental health and wellbeing.
Sophie Montagne describes herself as ‘athletically very average’. Before training for her Antarctic Ice Maiden adventure, she says, ‘I had no indication whatsoever that I was capable of undertaking extreme endurance in an extreme environment’.
Mariellen Ward is an award winning travel blogger at BreatheDreamGo.com. We talk about her love of India, advice for a first time visitor, and how to have an authentic Indian experience.
A Girl’s Guide to Travelling Alone podcast is back! I’m so happy to say that my first guest is the former editor of Marie Claire, Helen Russell. Helen is a best-selling British author, journalist and speaker. Her highly popular 2015 debut, ‘The Year of Living Danishly’ is an international bestseller…
Anyone who tuned in to BBC Two’s ‘Race Across the World’ will surely have been hooked from day one. It’s hard not to have a favourite couple throughout this epic adventure, and I loved Natalie and Shameema’s can-do attitude, and how their personalities and support for one another carried them through to the finish post in Singapore. In this episode, we talk about what kind of lessons they learned along the way, being stranded in The Caspian Sea for 5 days, hiring a tandem to reach the checkpoint in Uzbekistan, coping with a lack of sleep, and Natalies challenges and anxieties about unwanted attention in certain countries because of the colour of her skin.
Emily Luxton is a full time travel writer and blogger. Originally from Weymouth, on the South coast of England, Emily has been writing for 7 years, and her focus is all about deeper travel and how we can all have more immersive experiences, rather than passing through, ticking the big sights off the list!
Lindsey Cole has had to deal with grief at a young age. Losing her father, when she was just 24, she threw herself into adventure, which, in her own words, is ‘the most wonderful medicine’. So far, she has walked the length of the Rabbit Proof Fence, swam the length of the river Thames and cycled from the top to the bottom of Africa.
Danielle Desir is a travel finance specialist, speaker and podcaster at The Thought Card. In the past few years, not only has she managed to save thousands of dollars on travel, she has also done it whilst paying off her student debt, and becoming a homeowner.
Amy Baker is a writer and broadcaster. She is the author of the hugely popular ‘Miss-adventures: A Tale of Ignoring Life Advice While Backpacking Around South America.’ Amy shares some of the warnings she received before embarking on her 6 month solo trip to South America, such as ‘You’re 100% going to die!’ And ‘Beware of men with wooden jewellery’ and why she chose to ignore them. Amy also shares her (somewhat more useful!) advice on solo travel, and why we should ignore the naysayers.
I’ve been travelling on my own since 2002 and I haven’t always gotten it quite right (!) but in this episode, I’ve shared some of the knowledge I’ve learned along the way plus my top 5 tips for solo female travel.
One of the most common questions I am asked, is “Will I be safe travelling alone?”. This was definitely one of my concerns too, before I ever set out on my own alone, aged 23. But with a bit of research, and packing the right kit, you’ll be absolutely fine. You can minimise risks and take steps to protect yourself, so all you have to do, is relax and enjoy yourself!
A few weeks ago, I was thrilled to be a guest on The Postcard Academy. Sarah Mikutel and I are now podcast buddies (and, as it happens we are North London neighbours!). So I was so pleased when Sarah agreed to come on to my podcast.
